Address: Po box 3092, rarotonga, Muri beach , Rarotonga , Cook islands
These thatched bungalows look quintessentially Polynesian from the outside, but don't let the traditional exterior fool you - inside the villas are beautifully finished in a sleek, contemporary style, with gleaming wood floors, panelled walls, muted lighting and huge king-size beds. There are two types of bungalows to choose from - the 'beachfront' villas (although only one is actually on the sand) and the 'lotus luxury bungalows' (reached by a small private bridge) which are set back from the beach beside a grassy garden with views inland to the central mountains. The interior furnishings are really top-notch for the price (plenty of local materials, tropically-toned bedspreads and South Pacific artwork), and all the little touches are there to make your stay extra-special. Beachside hammocks, reef shoes and kayaks are all complimentary, and there's even a (very) small swimming pool. The only drawback is the slightly cramped location - the beachside bungalows are jammed in pretty tight, so if you're not desperate to hear the sea from your sundeck, consider staying a little way inland at the super-stylish hillside cottage.
