So you want to travel to the Cook Islands but you just can't give up urban living? No problem - just check out these smart townhouses-on-the-beach beside Muri Lagoon, which offer substantially more space than many places along Rarotonga's south coast.

Each condominium is split over two levels with two or three light, airy bedrooms on the first floor and a spacious kitchen, dining room and lounge area downstairs. Outside there's a private sundeck with views across Avana harbour. Don't expect too much traditional character - the emphasis is very much on clean lines and mod cons. The units are practical and well-equipped, especially for travelling families. The location is impressive too: a private jetty opposite the condos stretches right out into one of the deepest parts of Muri Lagoon, offering fantastic swimming and snorkelling as well as striking views of the palm-covered motu (islets) out towards the reef. There's also a small stretch of beach opposite the condos and a nice onsite pool - and the many charms of Muri Beach are just a short stroll west along the coast road.
