Lonely Planet review

In a stately Georgian building half a block from High St, this tranquil guesthouse was taken over by new owners in 2003. Its 10 rooms have loads of little extras.

As well as TVs, phones, tea- and coffee-making facilities and hairdryers, rooms also have travel-size irons and wall-mounted, fold-down ironing boards. Mottled-tiled bathrooms are stocked with Classic Country bath products that fit in with this grand old house's countrified ambience. The country feel is apparent when you're starting your day with a rich full Irish cooked breakfast in the small front parlour room. Berkeley House has a range of rooms, all nonsmoking, including doubles, triples, family rooms, and twin rooms with oversized beds. Rates drop considerably when things are quiet, and at all times single rooms are charged at half the double rate, so they're also a good deal if you're travelling solo. Free off-street parking is available out the back.
