The Holiday Inn chain of hotels can be pretty bland, which makes this instalment surprisingly impressive. We're not talking unbridled opulence, but in a city where reasonable midrange places can be hard to find this is a good bet.

You can expect pretty dependable service and simple, uncluttered, comfortable rooms that aren't too small. What is better than expected are the flatscreen TVs and broadband internet connections in all rooms (plus wi-fi from the 18th floor up), and smart executive rooms and suites that would cut the mustard in more prestigious hotels. There are three non-smoking floors. The location is pretty handy too, being within an easy walk of all the major sights, the casino and the ferry terminal. Like all Macau hotels, midweek rates and packages here can save you plenty, but the downside is that many of the cheaper rooms have yet to be renovated and are showing their age. There's also a small pool and fitness centre.
