Lonely Planet review

Despite the slightly dubious name this is a friendly, family-run B&B in the heart of Hampstead village. An Italian theme runs throughout - from the restaurant downstairs to the frescoes on the bedroom walls - possibly to mask the size of the rooms, which aren't much bigger than you'd find in Rome. Most rooms at La Gaffe are big enough for a couple of nights. Splash out on either of the 'honeymoon' suites - complete with four-poster bed and jacuzzi - and you could easily extend your stay to a week or more. Depending on your taste you'll find the decor charming or chintzy, but either way the accommodation is very comfortable. Rooms facing the street are bright and noisy despite the double-glazing, while rooms facing the back are bigger and have larger bathrooms, though they can be a bit dark. Perhaps the biggest selling point is the location moments away from Hampstead Heath.
