Oak moldings and antique lighting in the lobby promise a level of sophistication that the 1920s-era hotel doesn't deliver in-room. But it's got a prime North Side location - bobbing amid a throng of eateries, a five-minute walk to the park and lakefront and a 15-minute ride to downtown.

Admittedly, the Inn at Lincoln Park is the next best thing compared to its Lincoln Park and Lake View brethren regarding room quality. While the lobby, with its handsome furniture and grandfather clock, is appealing, the rooms themselves are worn (dingy carpets, cracked tiles, etc), with many outfitted in a gaudy red color scheme. And the window-unit air-conditioners can be noisy. Avoid the "economy" single, which is only 10ft by 10ft (3m by 3m). A continental breakfast of muffins and cereal, wireless internet (9.95 per day), usable in public spaces only, and 12.00 parking sweeten the deal somewhat. It's an ok choice when other Lincoln Park hotels are full, but when summer prices rise to 189.00 for a queen - look for a new neighborhood.
