The Art Deco-style lobby is a promising overture. Even if it contrasts with the rooms (and especially bathrooms) which are a bit long in the tooth, guests prize their size (fairly large). Those with full kitchens are ideal for self-caterers.

Hidden behind Hollywood & Highland mall, this somewhat elderly property is a bargain-hunter's dream for its location and the size of its rooms. Families will appreciate having plenty of space to move around in, and rollaway beds and cribs are available for a small surcharge. Days start with a free (rather run of the mill) continental breakfast and newspaper. In the rooms, there's high-speed internet, satellite TV, and welcome air-con. Some people also complain that the hotel's location can be noisy. There's still some residual sleaziness at night, but the proximity to the heart of Hollywood and cheap rates still make it one of the best deals around. Note: parking is free, though the small size of the parking lot can make getting in and out a hassle.
