The Carlton went and got all (vaguely) upmarket on us, adding crisp, white box rooms, stainless-steel accents, molded lobby furniture and design magazine accoutrement. With all that said, it's not too special compared to the nearby competition, unless you factor in the reasonable rates.

Per usual, it's all about expectations. If you think along the lines of an upmarket hostel (or lower-end midrange), you'll be fairly happy. If you think 'less expensive South Beach luxury', you'll be in trouble. And as long as you're of the mind, 'Hey, this is Miami. I won't be spending much time in my room anyway', you'll be okay. The rooms adhere to SoBe's opulent standards, even if they don't particularly exceed them: all white, 300-count sheets, Egyptian cotton comforts, turn-down service and the like. The Olympic-sized swimming pool is good for strutting and laps (the latter activity being a bit rare in Miami).
