The Washington Jefferson hotel has gone hip with its acronym. The WJ shows off a sparkling renovation that gives a little more snazz to its well-priced rooms, just north of Times Sq and the bulk of Broadway theaters. The 135 rooms of this hotel have benefited from a comfortable but somewhat unambitious modern makeover. Rooms have platform beds, goose-down comforters and big padded headboards. Doubles aren't massive - the superior king rooms are much roomier. There's cable TV (with web TV and pay-for-view movies), plus CD players and original Midtown photos on the walls. You can get high-speed internet in the rooms too. The downstairs sushi restaurant Shimizu attracts locals for low-priced maki specials at lunch made at its modern sushi line.
