Address: 465 grant ave , San francisco CA 94108, Usa Show on map
A fake fireplace, imitation flowers and faux-crystal chandeliers greet your arrival in the lobby of the Grant Plaza. But these details are worth overlooking in favor of bargain room rates and a central location, right on the edge of Chinatown, the Financial District, Union Square, Nob Hill and North Beach.Desk clerks shout back and forth, which can be irritating after a long flight. No matter: the owners take great pride in the hotel and generally keep it clean - even if they're not the best decorators. Rooms have ugly blonde-wood furniture with pale-purple upholstery, lampshades are cockeyed, and the housekeepers spray too much air freshener, but these are forgivable offenses in an otherwise admirable tourist-class hotel. Bathrooms have granite vanities, an unexpected nicety, but have only fiberglass shower stalls, no tubs (request one, if it matters). Some rooms overlook Grant Ave, Chinatown's main drag, providing an exotic view of colored neon signs in Chinese and English. NB: rooms don't have individually controlled heat, only centrally forced air; request an extra blanket before you go to bed if you get cold at night.
