If you prefer high heels to hiking boots and classical elegance over fashion-forward trends, but can't afford the Ritz, you'll appreciate the European tastefulness of the Warwick Regis.

The style is staid and traditional - heavy on European antiques and Chinese porcelain - and conveys a discreet grandeur, perfect for debutantes and royalty on a budget. Beds are either four-posters or have crown canopies, with fabric gathered in a semi-circle over the headboard and tied off with satin rope on either side - just the kind of frilly touch that distinguishes the Warwick. The beds themselves are remarkably comfortable and even have triple-sheeting - though you'll have to request feather pillows. Baths have black Italian marble-tile floors and brass fixtures that complement the retro-fancy look of the place. At a time when most boutique hotels are racing to find the next design aesthetic, the Warwick holds a torch for the museum-like look of pre-1980s hotel design, à la Ritz-Carlton at half the price.
