Lonely Planet review

One of those rare hotels that offers both Western- and Japanese-style rooms for the same prices, Sakura Ryokan is also situated away from city-centre craziness. Reasonably priced and family run, it's a modest place to rest your head.Staying in this tucked-away Iriya inn, run by a friendly English-speaking family, is an unpretentious affair. Both Western- and Japanese-style rooms are clean and comfortable, but since they're comparably priced, do yourself the favour of sleeping in a tatami one. With the futon rolled away for the day, it will feel more open and homey. About half the rooms have attached baths, but all have access to the communal baths. The baths and dining area do the job readily enough but offer little superfluous charm; they feel like extensions of the innkeepers' suburban home, which isn't such a bad thing. Ten rooms are Japanese style, while the remaining eight are unremarkable Western-style quarters. Japanese or Western breakfasts are a reasonable price. Internet access is available in the lobby.
