Elegant rooms and a beautiful swimming pool make this one of the better midrange choices in Bangkok. With 439 rooms it's an impersonal establishment - you'll see hundreds of people like you lining up for waffles and welcome cocktails. But it's attractive and very well-maintained, with fancier facilities than many pricier hotels.

Frequently discounted rates and good business facilities keep families, package visitors and corporate guests pouring in. The rooms are comfortable and well-appointed, with tasteful decor. Rates usually include breakfast - a huge Asian and international buffet that will keep you going well into the day. The pool is particularly nice in the evenings when the crowds clear and you can backstroke under the skyscrapers. While nothing in the design is particularly memorable, the facilities (which also include a spa and restaurants) are all attractively presented and in good condition. It's a step above most midrange hotels, which tend to be musty or faded. The main drawback is location. While centrally situated by the Pratunam markets, it remains a good 20- to 30-minute walk from the nearest Skytrain station. Most don't mind this, however, as you can reach most places by taxi.
