Staying in this block of idiosyncratic holiday flats is like being invited into an old-style family home and told to make yourself completely comfortable. The owner does her utmost to ensure complete non-conformity between each comfortably cluttered apartment.

In one apartment a big toy teddy bear may greet you from atop a fluffed-up pillow on the bed, while in another you could be presented with several overflowing bookcases to read your way through. Homely individual touches also abound in the small, plant-filled, communal courtyard, into which a small pool is squeezed. All apartments have two bedrooms and are fully self-contained, with modern kitchens. 'Standard' rooms are located upstairs and share a veranda and a full-frontal view of the MacDonnells. 'Deluxe' rooms are on the ground floor and have their own private courtyard. Repeat long-term bookings ensure there's always lots of competition for these apartments. There are many places in Alice Springs that are gay and lesbian friendly, but Hillsview is probably the only one that advertises this.
