For style, value and a superb riverfront location, this is one of the most impressive mid-range hotels in Phnom Penh. Unlike some of its neighbours, all rooms here are voluminous and have a window; it's also clear that the French management have paid attention to the little details.

The rooms are festooned with richly coloured silk drapes - whether it's the walls, ceilings, beds or windows, these add a real Asian ambience. All 32 rooms, spread over two adjacent buildings, have ADSL internet connections and breakfast is served in your room or in the restaurant until midday, so sleep in without worry. When you consider the fantastic location, with front rooms overlooking the river, the Bougainvillier adds up to a very good deal. The suites are a worthy investment with acres of space and an unobstructed view of the Tonlé Sap. The ground-floor restaurant is a classy little number serving fine French food like foie gras, plus the local touch of old Indochina. The cuisine is well-regarded by expats and can be ordered as 24-hour room service.
