Set in a parklike, hillside garden shaded by tropical trees, Bungalow Village - just 200m (218yd) from the beach - has an old-fashioned chill-out zone and nine basic bungalows with wood-plank walls and glassless windows; the more expensive ones come with sea views.

Hang out here for a while and you'll forget you're staying in a boomtown. The mellow, thatch-roof bar-restaurant is outfitted with rattan chairs in one section and floor cushions in another, with chickens pecking around the kitchen shack. Flagstone paths lead to the bungalows, whose amenities are rustic bordering on basic - the cheapies have squat toilets with rough wood walls and tin roofs. The attraction here is the vibe and the location, not the comfort level. The centrepiece of the garden is a smooth, grey-black boulder 15m across that looks a bit like a half-buried, petrified flying saucer (at least from some angles). In the dry season, films are screened four evenings a week at the little amphitheatre at the bottom of the garden.
