This small, hip hotel offers rooms at rates that are remarkably reasonable in high season and downright bargains at other times. While everything in the place is rather miniature, from the breakfast nook area to the guest rooms, it is a fine alternative to the largely homogenised tourist digs usually available at these prices.

If you are willing to compromise on room size, the Globus will enable you to avoid the brand-new antiques and Botticelli posters that define the decor of most Florence hotels in this price range. Rooms are defined by warm, restrained colours and the clean lines of '60s-inspired, wenge furniture. In addition, you will get amenities that are rare at this price range, including free, in-room DSL access and SKY TV as well as air-conditioning and soundproof windows. A simple but good breakfast buffet is served in the tiny dining room that doubles as a swish bar. Finally, the hotel is conveniently located a short walk from both the train station and the centre of Florence.
