A romantic nook, the Cellini is small, intimate and discreet. Fresh flowers adorn the bright hall which leads to six airy rooms, each of which boasts honey-coloured parquet floors, choice antiques and fine fabrics. The mosaic-tiled bathrooms are equally appealing. Two floors above on the 5th floor, there are a further five rooms. It's not the easiest place to find, but once you make it up to the 3rd floor of the nondescript palazzo you might well decide that the Colosseum can wait, that you're going to stay in and have a jacuzzi. Honeymooners will certainly want to linger - especially after the complimentary bubbly. Rooms are divided into superior and junior suites although there's not a lot of difference between them. All have king-size or twin beds with orthopaedic mattresses and hand-painted ceramics in the bathroom; suites, however, have jacuzzi bathtubs; superiors, power showers. Breakfast is abundant and the three siblings who run the place are helpful to a fault.

Head up to the Palazzo del Quirinale, home of the Italian president. On the piazza outside watch the changing of the guard between 15:00 and 16:00. Alternatively hope for an art exhibition in the Scuderie Papali al Quirinale, the palace's converted stables.
