Sleek and comfortable, the Blue Horizon offers good value, high-quality services and balconies for everyone, with great views across Vancouver from the top floors. And if that's not enough, it has a smashing location right on the main Robson St drag.

Covered in thousands of tiny blue tiles, this tower was a striking addition to the Vancouver skyline when it opened as an apartment complex in 1962 (when it was once the city's tallest building). Quickly jumping the fence to hotel status - room doors still have the letter boxes that recall its first incarnation - it's been one of Vancouver's most consistently popular sleepovers ever since. The great Robson St location is obviously one reason but the high-quality facilities (including an indoor pool and free internet access) are the main draws. All rooms are corner suites and each has a balcony - those on the top floors enjoy great views of English Bay, Stanley Park and the North Shore mountains. The hotel restaurant has a good street-seating patio that serves up West Coast reinventions of traditional breakfasts, including salmon omelettes and maple apple pancakes.
