While its lobby may remind you of a shopping mall and its tower block visage is unlikely to appear on many postcards, the Empire Landmark is a large, well-located hotel with reliable midrange standards and amenities.

While many rooms at the Empire Landmark have been remodelled in recent years, some are still a bit dated: think 1980s business traveler ambience. All rooms have balconies - some with spectacular views of the waterfront curving from English Bay to Stanley Park - and the raft of hotel services include a fitness room, hairdresser, business center and active concierge desk that can book you on a whole range of local tours and attractions. In addition, the Airporter shuttle bus stops right outside. While the Empire Landmark's dining options offer standard hotel fare - you're better off strolling along Robson St for some alternatives - you should save some time for a cocktail or two at the hotel's revolving Cloud 9 Lounge. Located on floor 42, it's a great place for a nighttime view of the city's twinkling downtown skyscrapers.
