Down the block from the Guggenheim and its arty crowd, you can hole up in your own designer Venetian bolthole. DD724 is snappy local shorthand for the street address, but "Charming House" doesn't do justice to the unexpectedly warm, minimalist chic of the seven guestrooms.

Drift off in a sleekly contemporary four-poster bed under a low-beamed ceiling like a VIP stowaway in a Venetian captain's quarters, and awake to a lavish buffet in the art-filled library that doubles as a breakfast nook. Designed by architect Mauro Mazzolini, DD724 is a showplace for paintings, photographs, sculptures, even light installations - yet it doesn't seem cluttered. There's even a movie viewing room with DVDs and a large plasma screen. Rooms are minimalist yet fully loaded with wi-fi and flat-screen LCD TVs. The superior double is larger than the standard rooms and has a bath tub and a balcony overlooking the Guggenheim garden. After a homemade breakfast of pastries, eggs and bacon, sightseeing may seem physically impossible - luckily the Accademia, Guggenheim, Salute Church, and Punta Dogana are all at your doorstep here.
