Simple wrought-iron beds, terracotta tiled floors, and whitewashed walls are a relief in a city overwhelmed with froufrou decor schemes. Hide in plain sight at this pleasant, convenient, central B&B in a quiet, local neighbourhood niche away from the packs of prowling tourists. The Riccio family thoughtfully converted this apartment in 2004 into a bright, charming seven-room bed and breakfast, with rooms on the top two floors. Each bedroom has soaring ceilings, courtyard views, a pristine modern bathroom with tub or shower, and in-room internet access. Pull up a chair to the ironwork table for breakfast delivered to your room, or raid the minibar for that essential nightcap. An iron staircase leads to No 6, a cosy bedroom in the eaves with exposed beams, a sweet little bathroom, and a window offering glimpses of Zanipolo (aka Chiesa di San Giovanni & Paolo). If you're wowed by the Murano chandelier in your room, Ca' Riccio offers complimentary tours to the Murano glass-blowing factories.

Look to the right when you reach the canal at the end of the street, and you can see Casanova's house. In the other direction you have the Chiesa di Santa Maria dei Miracoli, constructed with the leftover marble from Basilica di San Marco to house a Madonna portrait said to perform miracle cures. The Campo Santa Maria Nova over the canal is an alluring spot for a drink.
