King George's House is an appealing pension with rooms that have been given a crisp modern makeover; the attic rooms, with exposed wooden beams, are the most attractive. It's within easy walking distance of Old Town Square, although the bar is so comfortable you may not bother venturing outside. Unfortunately there's no lift, only steep stairs.

The recently refurbished King George's House is another of those quaint little historic pensions that Prague offers in profusion. The pale green facade is neoclassical, but the building's origins go back as far as the 14th century, and the serious-looking exposed wooden beams in the attic rooms bear testimony to its age. Antique-style furniture graces the cosy rooms, which come in different shapes and sizes, although some are rather small. Interior design revolves around stark white walls and the odd framed print. Mod cons include minibars and TVs, and the well-equipped bathrooms are bright and spotless.
