This grand white edifice looks slightly out of place (and scale) on this quiet backstreet in Vinohrady, but it's a friendly place with 84 bright, squeaky-clean rooms and a sauna, solarium and massage service to help the travel weary relax.

Snoozing away contentedly in a peaceful corner of Vinohrady, the four-star Ametyst is a fine place to rest up and get away from it all while still being reasonably close to the city centre - Wenceslas Sq is around a 25min walk, while the Náméstí Miru metro station is little more than 10min away. The crisp, clean and modern rooms are all individually designed, with an emphasis on cream and white furnishings and pine. The odd piece of modern art brightens the atmosphere. If those take your fancy, paintings by Czech and Russian artists are for sale here. There's a very good restaurant and wine bar on site, and the hotel offers a limousine to whisk you to and from the airport. All rooms have air-conditioning, LCD flat screen televisions, and wi-fi.
