Business hotels in suburbia are more often than not bland affairs, but Hotel am Schottenfeld, with its contemporary interior design and clash of colours, is an exception. Although it is definitely slanted towards business clientele, individual travellers are more than welcome through its automatic glass doors.Your first point of call is the foyer and bar, which sport garish colours and severe angles and have about as much warmth as a bad '80s music video. However, much like a bad '80s music video, there's also something addictive about them. Rooms are another story altogether, with soft greys, greens and creams, plenty of natural wood and thankfully a distinct lack of sharp edges to catch yourself on. The best rooms are saved for last; dach (rooftop) suites come complete with sizable balconies and are awash with natural light. Like any self-respecting business hotel, service is short, sharp, and snappy and attempts to cater to your every need, and there is a fitness room, sauna, steam room and solarium for guests.

Neubau is not known for its sights, but it is for its bars and restaurants; try either Gaumenspiel or Konoba for quality cuisine and Wirr or Schultz for a long or shot drink.
