A fully-fledged palace to run amuck in, unbridled views of the entire city, a resort-like ambience, excellent coffee and cake, and cosy rooms - is there anything more you require from a hotel in Vienna?Ok, so no hotel can be this perfect. You could be a A LOT closer to the centre of the city (it takes 45 minutes by public transport to reach Stephansdom), but there are advantages to being well out of the maelstrom that is Vienna during peak season and high on a hill in the confines of the peaceful Vienna Woods. The reception area, cafe (with one of the best views in all Vienna) and conference space are suitably palatial (high ceilings, detailed inlays on the walls and ceilings, chandeliers), and while rooms are contemporarily-styled, they compliment rather than detract from the building's Neo-Empire architecture. Standard rooms line the top floors and may be on the small side, but the view, of either Vienna or the woods, is quite something. More expensive maisonette rooms are unusually thin but this is counter-balanced by exceptionally high ceilings which allow room for a loft bed.

The city centre may not be on your doorstep, but the Vienna Woods, with its plethora of hiking and cycling trails, peaceful meadows and occasional heurigen (vineyard tavern) are.
The Schloss functioned as a hospital during both world wars, a children's home from 1927 to 1934, and as the residence of the Vienna Boys' Choir between 1934 and 1938.
