Lonely Planet review

In the appealing Ste Catherine quarter, 10 minutes' walk northwest of the Grand Place, the Résidence Les Écrins is an enchanting, small, traditional hotel in a 19th-century townhouse, with 11 unpretentious, bright, modern rooms.Simply but charmingly furnished, the lemon-yellow, carpeted rooms have comfy beds dressed with crisp white cotton sheets, and are equipped with TVs and telephones. Some of the smaller rooms have (very) compact walk-through bathrooms but size apart, all bathrooms are newly tiled and have hairdryers. At the foot of the staircase, the buttercup-yellow breakfast room with sculpted plaster ceilings is a sweet little spot to start the day with a spread of fresh fruit, cheese, jam and fresh bread. Two doors up from the hotel proper, the owners also rent out two larger apartments (with mezzanine in the top-floor one) for longer stays - breakfast isn't included in the price of the apartments, but you'll have all your own cooking facilities, so you can hit the supermarket and whip something up yourself.
