Built in 1917 and operating as the Hotel Siru since 1932, this distinctive turreted building is actually part of the Comfort Hotel chain. Don't be deceived: none of the 101 rooms here are alike - or like anything you'll find anywhere else.Touting itself as the first 'museum-hotel' in the world, some would describe it as an 'art & dream gallery' - here you sleep with angels, or wake to cockatoos hiding amid the jungle. In the 1980s the late owner began commissioning 130 cutting-edge Belgian artists to go to town on the place... and they did. Each room, as well as the public areas, features contemporary works, from framed prints to murals, classic Belgian comic-strip art to 3-D papier-mâché sculptures protruding from the walls and ceiling. As well as unique art pieces, there's also a small framed profile of each artist in the rooms, such as that of Jean-Marie Boomputte, whose tightrope walkers sculpture is now something of an icon. Except the seven octagonal rooms in the front tower, most rooms here are definitely on the small side. This is a 100% nonsmoking hotel.

Buffet breakfasts (included) are at the adjoining Le Saint Germain Brasserie, an impossibly Parisian place with long narrow dark timber tables and timber archways. For lunch and/or dinner, Chef Morera concocts all sorts of seafood dishes: specialities are the sea bass, grilled on one side and served with leek and Belgian endives, or Brussels' famous mussels in white wine.
