True, it's part of a corporate chain, and true, the building's state-of-the-art circa 1989, but this hotel has a near endless list of one-off features, including one of Belgium's most celebrated destination restaurants, Sea Grill, and a walk-in humidor where regulars have their own security code and cigar boxes.

It's hard to grasp, but the hotel's stark art deco facade hides a staggering 281 rooms stacked around its vast central atrium. Sail up the glass lift (close your eyes if you suffer from vertigo) to your very classy, light-filled room or suite. The suites are themed and feature multi-jet showers, and swags of amenities including multi-national power points. Be sure to have a drink at Bar Dessiné, which serves between 250 to 300 varieties of single malt Scotch whisky including a 40-year-old Bowmore that's kept under gold padlock and key above the bar. Female execs doing business in Brussels can request a 'ladies' room' with additional security (proximity to lifts, held calls), make-up remover and manicure set, satin bathrobes, a pillow menu and escapist mags. Buffet breakfast is served in wood-clad Pebblewood Corner. Staff are among the friendliest and most genuine in town.
