Though its brochures claim it's right in the centre of Brussels, this place is a fair hike from the city's epicentre. But don't be dissuaded - this lovely four-star hotel is just 500m (1650ft) from the Louise metro station and has gorgeous period rooms and public areas.

All up, staying here feels more like visiting rich relatives than checking into a hotel. Close to its five-starred sister establishment, Manos Premier, the boutique Manos Stephanie has marble galore in its museum-like antique-filled lobby. A sun-drenched atrium features a living tree in its sunken dining area. A lavish hot and cold buffet breakfast extravaganza is included in the room rate. The 48 generous rooms are done up to the nines in Louis XV and Louis XVI-style with ultra-comfortable beds adorned with red and gold-threaded bedspreads, and ruffled pelmets above heavy, tassel-tied curtains. Five of the seven suitably grand suites span two separate floors with internal staircases. Easy-to-sink-into, plum-coloured suede chairs are intimately grouped in the chandeliered bar, which adjoins an internet alcove with handy free 24-hour access (wifi's also available).
