OK, so not all the 107 rooms in this five-star establishment technically qualify as suites, with separate living and sleeping areas, but they're still decadently spacious with ample room to swing a litter of cats.

The hotel's a relative newcomer, built in 1999 by Italian architect Maurizio Bolacchi. While not over-decorated, accommodations are appointed the way five-star rooms and suites should be, with marble bathrooms decked out with vases of potpourri and Sutton & Foster products, full soundproofing, and expansive beds with unyielding mattresses. Two of the suites have private terraces with panoramic views. There's a host of amenities, including wi-fi, a free 24-hour fitness centre, and an international breakfast buffet that includes Japanese offerings of sushi, rice and soup. But the ultimate's surely one of the hotel's two restaurants, La Maison du Châtelain, which fuses Asian and traditional Belgian cuisine and flows onto a vine-arboured sandstone terrace with an arched trompe l'œil that featured on the 2005 cover of the Belgian imprint of Elle Décoration.
