Having flexed their artistic muscle with the Daddy Longlegs boutique hotel, this sister operation takes creativity to new heights with its roof-top trailer park of suites made from seven vintage Airstream trailers.Owners Jody and Nick and their staff headed to the US to source the sleek sliver 'land yachts' that now constitute their unique penthouse suites. Each has been decorated by different artists and designers to specific themes, such as the John and Yoko bed-in or Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Decking, trees and plants create a garden in the sky, supplemented by a mini outdoor cinema where retro drive-in and arthouse movies will be screened. Compared to all this you'd expect the hotel's regular rooms to pale in comparison. They might not be as wackily designed but they're still very stylish and incorporate playful references to South African culture. In keeping with the Daddy theme, the bar has been blinged to the max with gold paint and trinkets and renamed - what else? - Daddy Cool.

If you want to flash your designer threads somewhere other than the Daddy Cool bar, head for sky-high Hemisphere (tel: 021-421 0581; 31st floor, ABSA Centre, Riebeeck St, City Bowl).
Practically the only thing left from the hotel's original incarnation as the Metropole is its historic early 20th-century cast-iron elevator.
