This, the most noteworthy of Puerto Vallarta's recently-opened luxury hotels, elicits oohs and ahs from most guests, but for others the eye candy comes off as just a bit too sweet.Enough with the soothing dripping fountains already! Every nook and cranny of the place is crammed with colonial flourish, from domed porticos and old mission antiques to statues of angels playing guitars and even saxophones. Every detail is so solicitously conceived that one almost feels manipulated into a state of restive bliss. But after a while, even the most jaded grump may be won over by the thoughtful attentions of the staff and the culinary magic practiced in the oh-so-colonial kitchen. The nine suites are individually decorated and undeniably luxurious, and each of the two pools affords tremendous views of the cathedral or the Bay of Banderas. There's also a daily cocktail hour and breakfast brought to your door each morning. Who could complain?
