There's not much budget accommodation in the Old Town, so Hostel Kanonia shines like a beacon to zloty-conscious travellers. Housed in a historic building right next to the Royal Palace, these lodgings are in the heart of Warsaw's Old Town.

Hostel Kanonia works on the colour principle, with its interiors as bright as the Old Town is tastefully subdued. Its high-ceilinged rooms have splashes of red paint and orange furniture, a brilliance matched by the friendliness of the owners. The accommodation is mostly in dorms, with only one dedicated double room but triples are available for larger groups. Some rooms also offer picturesque views onto the neighbourhood's cobblestoned streets. There's a pleasant dining room and basic kitchen facilities, and free Internet access for guests. From May to October the Old Town is buzzing and the hostel is packed to the rafters, so book ahead.
