This tower-block hangover from Socialist Yugoslavia (in a central if rather uninviting area) is central Ljubljana's best value mid-range choice. The rooms are a little basic but pleasant nonetheless.

There is such a dearth of mid-range hotel accommodation in central Ljubljana that this unappealing-looking tower block is actually a pretty good option. It's basically a stripped-down hotel that works something like a hostel with private rooms: students with ISIC cards are entitled to a 10% discount. For the rest, there is something to be said about bedding down in a building that feels like a dated Socialist-era relic of a time long since gone. That may not seem so attractive, but the plain rooms are perfectly comfortable, even if the bed frames look like they're made of the cheapest plywood and the bathrooms could do with a once-over (the cheaper rooms have en suite toilet but share showers). Our favourite feature is the old-style lifts: one for even-numbered floors, another for odd-numbered ones. The staff are fabulously friendly, too.
