Ljubljana goes high tech with this elegant new hotel on the outskirts of the city. It's a little removed from the centre but easy to access by public transport or hotel shuttle.The pervasive Japanese influence makes for thoroughly modern rooms equipped with fully-integrated flatscreen or, in the better rooms, plasma-screen TVs, VOIP phones (which means all landline calls are free) and other electronic gadgetry.

This includes touch-screen Internet and a 'mood menu' - basically a projection of a fireplace, sunset or whatever suitable setting you feel like. A word of warning: such gizmo wizadry is pretty cool...when it works. Downstairs, beneath the fancy buffet lounge and breakfast area (fried, continental or a combination of both) is the den of gambling iniquity, a luxurious casino where you can lose yourself in comfort and style. And then, to make yourself feel that bit better, take the lift to the drippingly luxurious health spa for an all-over body treatment.
