This Relais&Chateaux offering has the reputation of being fit for a queen and sure enough the Queen of Belgium was staying here when we visited. It's Vilnius' most expensive hotel and when you walk through the swinging doors into the elegant lobby you won't have any doubts as to why.The entire hotel is awash in the unmistakable glow of opulence, with chintz to die for, an inside balcony dripping with plants and bellhops decked out in goofy, anachronistic red uniforms. Even if you can't afford the palatial suites, try to check them out somehow - they'll have you spellbound. The standard rooms are only slightly less impressive, outfitted with spectacular carpets, antique clocks, elegant mirrors and beautiful artwork illuminated by soft light. Every night you'll find your sheets turned over and a homemade truffle on your bed: indeed, the service here is outstanding. Like many fancy hotels in these parts, the Stikliai pays homage to the hunter. Stay away if dead birds and antlers adorning the bar and common areas will offend. Shockingly, we spotted a cigarette burn in one of the bedspreads!

You're in the heart of the old Jewish quarter here. While few explicit reminders of Jewish life remain, you can walk down narrow Žydu gatve to the Gaon Elijahu statue and imagine how local life might once have been. There are some good amber and jewellery shops in the immediate vicinity of the hotel and you'll find good gamey Lithuanian grub at Lokys (The Bear) down the street.
The hotel is named after the glass blowers who had their workshop in the 17th-century pad on Stikliai gatve (Glass Blowers St).
