The nicest place to stay is the Parjatan, across the river (an easy Tk 2 ferry ride) from town. It only rarely receives foreign tourists which is a shame as it's one of the chains better bets. It looks a little like an old colonial palace (though it is in fact a modern creation) and is set in peaceful gardens. Rooms are bright and clean, with a small balcony overlooking Mongla River and the busy port beyond. Staff can help you track down a boatman for the Sundarbans.
