This boutique hotel was battered by the 2005 hurricanes but has since undergone massive refurbishment, with a brand-new open-air dining room and a glorious 'infinity edge' pool overlooking the beach. The duplex units are modern and contemporary in style, but they don't have kitchens and only the more expensive have any kind of view. It's tough to know what to make of the Manuia Beach. It's pitched somewhere between the style (and price-tag) of a full-blown boutique hotel, with painstakingly attentive service and nightly pillow gifts, but it also strives to capture the laid-back atmosphere and come-and-go convenience of some of the other upmarket bungalows on the island. The rooms are pleasant without being truly sensational - the decor's a little anonymous and the lack of cooking facilities is just a cynical ploy to encourage you to eat at the thatch-roofed, sand-floored restaurant (which is lovely, but works out extremely expensive over the course of a week's stay). It's the kind of hotel that's heavy on style but light on practicality - fine if you've got a bottomless wallet, not so great if you're looking to spread your dollars a little further.
