Bishop Lei International House is a fair distance from the shopping malls and other attractions scattered around Central, but the location is great if you appreciate regular escapes into the city's relaxing botanical gardens or forays into the hubbub of bar-filled Lan Kwai Fong.The hotel's position up on the northern edge of the Mid-Levels gives you a chance to see the crowded confines of one of Hong Kong's residential areas, giving you a different perspective on the city than that afforded by its business districts and the consumer chaos of Kowloon. Bishop Lei's is a clean place with friendly, personable staff. The 'Standard' rooms look out on the surrounding residential high rises, while the 'Harbour View' rooms grant long-distance glimpses of the harbour and are worth the extra cost. There's also a reading room for your literary pleasure and an outdoor pool on the 1st floor, adjacent to a cheap restaurant. One minor downside: a walk up here in the summer heat can be hard and sweaty, while the cabs crawl through congested roads. It's not ideal if you have lots of meetings to make.
