The City Garden Hotel does its best to put on a welcoming face, with some elegant fittings, sunny staff and comfortable modern furniture, such as the distinctive fat-bottomed chairs in the foyer. As befits the hotel's name, rooms are cosy and cloistered. The hotel is located in the North Point district, to the northeast of Causeway Bay. It's outside the main tourist and business precincts, but only a short MTR ride from them. In this area you basically have to be able to read Chinese to get anywhere with the menus in the local restaurants, an authenticity that seems to be popular with the Chinese tour groups and families that form the mainstay of the City Garden's business. Staying here certainly gives you a different experience of Hong Kong than if you stay closer to Central. The Garden Cafe, with its banks of large windows, is a pleasant place to get a bite to eat.
