Address: 193 prince edward road west , Mong kok 610012, Hong kong Show on map
It's in a far-flung location in Mong Kok, in the northern part of Kowloon, but this hotel has enough elegance and facilities to make it worth the trip. The Mong Kok KCR station is accessible through the adjoining Grand Century Place shopping centre, making this a handy spot if you've business in the New Territories or China. The fountain in the forecourt signals what kind of place this wants to be. The hotel's aspiring sophistication is also communicated by Art-Nouveau features in the convivial Lobby Lounge, where a piano plays itself somewhat despondently, and a trendy 'Roman-style' pool features piped underwater music (it's not clear why the Royal Plaza's managers wanted to give a perfectly good pool the ambience of an elevator). The rooms have an elegant old-style glow to them and plenty of mod-cons, and there's a good business centre. The massive adjoining shopping centre, like the surrounding district, is admirably bereft of tourists.

Directly opposite the hotel is the Yuen Po Street Bird Garden, where hundreds of birds trill (and in some cases speak) at you from behind the bars of their lacquered bamboo cages. Down an adjacent street is a colourful flower market.
