Lonely Planet review

This lavish, 3 billion casino and hotel complex will take your breath away. Gamblers will love the grandiose statement the towering folly, shaped like a flaming torch or a lotus flower, makes. Architectural and design purists will probably hate the throw-everything-including-Liberace's-kitchen-sink-at-it approach to the fit out.

If you've got the money, you've got to consider the Grand Lisboa. Not fully opened when we visited so we can't comment yet on the service, it's clear all the same that this is a contender with the Wynn for top bragging rights in central Macau. The black-and-red rooms are massive, very well appointed and come bristling with technology including Bang & Olufsen HD TVs. The range of food outlets is huge, with some terrific fine dining options. The casino (which unusually offers Texas hold 'em and craps) is vast.
