Lonely Planet review

Outside this barrel-chested 1880s house is a ridiculous Filipino sculpture that someone unearthed in their backyard. Ignore it and head straight inside where 70 clean rooms of various configurations, spotless shared bathrooms and helpful management await. A hot buffet breakfast is included in all rates. The Glenferrie is a rambling warren of tidily maintained, clean rooms with fridge, TV and ceiling fans; and helpful multilingual management. Bathrooms are shared but they're kept in good nick, and there are more than enough of them to service the guests' collective derriere. Communal areas are well worth hanging out in - there's cable TV in the comfy lounge and beaut verandahs where you can kick back and admire the treetops and water views. Prices for simpler rooms are cheaper, and reductions for longer stays are available on all rooms. Luggage lockers and wireless internet access are available. The lodge is also close to Kirribilli ferry pier - hop on a ferry and you'll be in Circular Quay in a few minutes.
