The Central Park is a perky, snazzy corner hotel that makes an extra effort to keep the guests coming back (eg, fresh fruit and mints at reception and free local phone calls). And that's before you realise you're getting a very comfortable, stylish modern room for a bargain rate.

The rooms themselves are decked out with sombre dark carpet, trendy feature walls, blonde wood, good storage facilities and clean whiter-than-white linen - a smart way to slumber near verdant Hyde Park. You might be tempted to score a corner room, which will give you a glimpse of Hyde Park but also expose you to the brunt of traffic noise from this rather busy intersection. If you need to really stretch out, the loft suites are winners: get one on Park St (quieter than Castlereagh) and make full use of the clever spatial configuration. Another nice touch is a fortune cookie on every pillow (will you have company this evening?).
