Can you ever have too many tassels? The answer is a resounding 'no' at the old Castlereagh. Tucked away off busy Castlereagh St, it's a lavish 1920s building with a sandstone facade and a plush interior that recalls swankier times. Great value and a great location.Once you've stepped inside from the rather congested and polluted strip that is Castlereagh St, you'll want to give your eyes time to assess the charms of the lobby - an elegant, hushed temple of smooth service, marble, oak and tinkling chandeliers. The rooms upstairs are very comfortable and lovingly maintained, plus there's a grand old-fashioned dining room for an elegant dinner. Standard rooms are on the small side, but they're perfectly suitable and filled with antique-style furniture, textured bed linen and patterned carpet. One room has disability access, and management is only too happy to add roll-away beds to any room if you're travelling with kids. The perfect spot for both sightseeing and business (wireless internet available) - one of Sydney's undiscovered treasures.
