Queen Street Mall is the pride of Brisbane's shopping district, a pedestrianised zone stuffed to bursting with opportunities to spend money. The Chifley at Lennons (Lennons was the hotel that occupied the site for years) is a fairly characterless, but nevertheless handy, hotel right in the heart of it all.

The Chifley at Lennons (there's another Chifley on George Street) has a good-sized plunge pool and a tiny spa on the roof, flanked by an outdoor terrace to while away those long, hot Queensland afternoons. The expensive rooms and suites here are a good size, with views over the hustle and bustle of the mall, but lack any kind of originality in the furnishings - the decor throughout is bog-standard international hotel stuff that you could find anywhere in the world. All the rooms have ironing boards, minibars and pay-TV movies, and the so-called 'spa rooms' have a jacuzzi bath too. Downstairs, the lobby bar and chef's restaurant are slightly funkier to look at, with a tinkling piano player in the evenings, but you'll still be dining with a view of the escalator, listening to the din of the mall outside.
