Address: 5 jianguomenwai da jie avenue , Beijing 100020, China Show on map
In the heart of Beijing's business centre, the Jianguo has for decades been a solid contender and a recent refit has injected some modernity into an ageing formula. Dependable amenities are there for the business traveller, and a good range of eating and drinking options is at hand.As for the rooms, we found the first floor superiors the cosiest. The design and furnishings are average (questionable carpets, chintzy wallpaper, simple bed, table - the chain hotel works), but the attached patios are a pleasant touch. Rooms facing Charlie's bar can be noisy come evening. Business floor rooms vary in quality - we didn't think the furnishings were high-end enough to justify the price. Renovations have been piecemeal so the hotel is seemingly caught between two eras: snappy zones and areas where dull brass fittings still rule. The hotel offers babysitting, wireless internet and free movie rental. Justine's, a well-regarded French restaurant, and stuck-in-a-time-warp Charlie's, a popular bar with live evening music, are both on the premises.
