Lonely Planet review

Like bread and milk, you'll want to get in on the good deal that is this hotel while it's still fresh. Places like this can go downhill fast. As it stands now, it is an excellent-value super-budget hotel, clean as a whistle and about as central as you can get. From the street you might think this hotel is a money-changing outlet or a small travel agency. And as you approach closer the large 'Star of Yun Long Hotel' sign that hangs behind the front counter fools you into thinking you've got the wrong address. Rest assured that, despite these distractions, this is the Tailong. Rooms are small, but quite functional, with, for example, closets (many low-budget hotels in Beijing don't). C rooms have showers, but no bathtub, and for this you save a bit compared to rooms that do have a tub. As long as the Tailong remains clean and reasonably well maintained it will be a contender on the budget scene. Everything you need is within walking distance: cheap eats, famous restaurants, shopping, hutongs (narrow alleyways), and a list of the big-ticket sights.
