Within this off-white Victorian townhouse you'll find 22 tastefully designed rooms, all traditionally British in decor. Lively floral curtains correspond with matching bedspreads, tartan headboards complement armchairs, and footstools and tables are draped in lace. The site where the Windermere hotel sits has seen plenty of history: kings, queens, princes, nobles and abbots regularly passed by on their way to and from Westminster Abbey and the abbot's official residence. Today's foot traffic is probably just racing off to busy Victoria station around the corner. The only marginal downside to the Windermere is the bathrooms. All the rooms (except two) are en suite and, while fairly generous in size, feature moulded plastic shower units. The two rooms with shared bath, 24 and G4 (a single), come with keys to their separate shower rooms and toilets that are located, somewhat disconcertingly, across stairwells and landings. That said, the Windermere is extremely homely and whether or not you have blue-blooded heritage, you're guaranteed to be treated like royalty.

Get a feel for British history by visiting The Houses of Parliament and the Cabinet War Rooms. Downing St is also nearby, although it's unlikely you'll be invited into Number 10 for a cup of tea.
This building was probably the earliest B&B in the area, taking guests from 1881 as 'The Pimlico Rooms'.
